కృష్ణవంశీ 'పైసా' ఎలా వుంటుంది?

ఆమధ్య 'మిరపకాయ్' చిత్రాన్ని నిర్మించిన ఎల్లో ఫ్లవర్స్ అధినేత రమేష్ పుప్పాల, ప్రస్తుతం ఒకేసారి రెండు సినిమాలు నిర్మిస్తున్నారు. వీటిలో ఒకటి బాలకృష్ణ హీరోగా రవికుమార్ చావలి దర్శకత్వంలో 'శ్రీమన్నారాయణ' చిత్రం కాగా; నాని కథానాయకుడుగా కృష్ణవంశీ దర్శకత్వంలో రూపొందుతున్న చిత్రం మరొకటి. రెండు చిత్రాల షూటింగులు ప్రస్తుతం హైదరాబాదులోనే జరుగుతున్నాయి. కృష్ణవంశీ రూపొందిస్తున్న చిత్రంలో నాని పక్కన కథానాయికగా మలయాళ భామ కేథరిన్ థెరీసా నటిస్తోంది. ఈ చిత్రానికి 'పైసా' అనే టైటిల్ ఖరారు చేశారు. ప్రస్తుత వ్యవస్థపై రూపొందించిన వ్యంగ్య కథతో కృష్ణవంశీ దీనిని రూపొందిస్తున్నట్టు తెలుస్తోంది.

'మెగా'మూవీకి వినాయక్ దర్శకుడట !

చిరంజీవి తన 149 వ సినిమా పూర్తి చేసిన దగ్గరనుంచి ... ఆయన రాజకీయాల్లో చేరిన దగ్గరనుంచి 150 వ సినిమా కోసం అభిమానులంతా ఆసక్తిగా ఎదురుచూస్తున్నారు. అయితే రాజకీయాల్లో బిజీగా ఉన్న చిరంజీవి తన 150 వ చిత్రాన్ని గురించి అప్పుడప్పుడు ప్రస్తావిస్తూ ఉండటంతో, ఆయన తిరిగి తప్పకుండా సినిమాల్లో నటిస్తారనే నమ్మకం అభిమానుల్లో కలిగింది. పార్టీకి ఉపయోగపడేలా మీరు సినిమాలు చేయండి... అంటూ ఇటీవల కాంగ్రెస్ నేత వాయిలార్ రవి సలహా ఇవ్వడంతో ఈ ప్రాజక్టు ఊపందుకుంది.
      ఇక ఆ సినిమా కథేమిటి ...?  అది రాజకీయ నేపథ్యానికి సంబంధించిన సందేశాత్మక చిత్రమా ...? అందులో అలరించే అందాల హీరోయిన్ ఎవరు ... ? అపారమైన అంచనాలతో ఉన్న ఈ సినిమాకి వి.వి.వినాయక్ దర్శకుడిగా వ్యవహరించనుండటం నిజమేనా ? ఇలా ఈ సినిమాకి సంబంధించిన అన్ని అంశాల గురించి అభిమానులు  అదేపనిగా మాట్లాడుకుంటున్నారు. అయితే ఈ గాసిప్ త్వరలో నిజం కాబోతోందనే వార్తలు ఇప్పుడు మరింత వేగాన్ని పుంజుకున్నాయి.
      మెగాస్టార్ నటించనున్న సందేశాత్మక చిత్రానికి వినాయక్ దర్శకుడిగా ఖరారు అయినట్టు చెబుతున్నారు. ఈ సినిమాకి సంబంధించిన కథా చర్చల్లో తాజాగా వీరిద్దరూ పాల్గొన్నట్టు తెలుస్తోంది. ప్రస్తుతం రామ్ చరణ్ సినిమా చేస్తోన్న వినాయక్, ఆ సినిమా పూర్తి కాగానే చిరంజీవి సినిమాని సెట్స్ పైకి తీసుకెళ్లనున్నట్టు చెబుతున్నారు. మరి ఈ సారైనా ఈ వార్త నిజమౌతుందో ... లేదంటే గాసిప్ గేలరీ లోనే  ఉండిపోతుందో ... !

ఐశ్వర్యకు పాపే ప్రపంచం!

మిగతా సినిమా వాళ్ల విషయం తెలియదు కానీ, ఐశ్వర్యారాయ్ మాత్రం అసలు సిసలు తల్లి అనిపించుకుంటోంది. కూతురి బాగోగులు చూడడానికి ఇంటి నిండా బంధువులు, పనిమనుషులు ఉన్నప్పటికీ... పిల్లకి స్నానం చేయించడం దగ్గర్నుంచీ, డైపర్లు మార్చడం వరకూ అన్నీ తనే చూసుకుంటోంది. పిల్లని విడిచి క్షణం కూడా ఉండలేకపోతోంది. ఒకవేళ తప్పనిసరి పరిస్థితులలో బయటకు వెళ్ళినా ఆమె మనసంతా పిల్ల మీదే ఉంటోందట.
         ఒక విధంగా చెప్పాలంటే, పిల్ల నిద్రపోయే సమయాన్ని బట్టి తన పనులు చేసుకుంటోంది. ఇటీవల తమ మేరేజ్ డేకి స్నేహితులతో కలిసి అభిషేక్, ఐశ్వర్య ఓ రెస్టారెంట్ కి డిన్నర్ కి వెళ్లడం జరిగింది. అయితే, అక్కడ వారు ఎక్కువ సేపు గడపలేకపోయారట. కారణం... 'బేటీ బి' కి పాలు పట్టాల్సిన సమయం వచ్చేసిందట. ఆ కూర్చున్న కాసేపూ కూడా ఇష్ ముళ్ల మీద కూర్చున్నట్టే కూర్చుందట. అక్కడికీ, తమ ఇంటికి అతి సమీపంలోని రెస్టారెంట్ నే ఎంచుకున్నారట కూడా!
        ఇక గత నెలలో ఒక ఎండార్స్ మెంట్ షూటింగ్ నిమిత్తం ఐష్ దుబాయ్ వెళ్ళాల్సి వచ్చింది. అప్పుడు కూడా తన ముద్దుల చిన్నారిని తన వెంట తీసుకువెళ్ళిందట. పైగా, షూటింగు కూడా తను వున్నా హోటల్ కి దగ్గరలోనే పెట్టుకోమని చెప్పిందట. షూటింగు మధ్యలో లేచి వెళ్లి, పిల్లను చూసుకుని రావడం చేసేదట. ఇలా ఇప్పుడు ఐశ్వర్య జీవితం పిల్ల చుట్టూ తిరుగుతోంది. పిల్లే ఆమెకు ప్రపంచంలా కనిపిస్తోంది. ఆ చిన్నారి తర్వాతే ఆమెకు ఇప్పుడు ఏదైనా... అభిషేక్ అయినా సరే!

తమన్నతో కలిసి బీదర్ వెళ్లిన రామ్ ! Sat, Apr 28, 2012

రామ్ - తమన్నా జంటగా కనువిందు చేయనున్న'ఎందుకంటే ప్రేమంట' చిత్రం ప్రస్తుతం షూటింగ్ దశలోవుంది. కరుణాకరణ్ తెరకెక్కిస్తోన్న ఈ సినిమా టాకీ పార్ట్ ను పూర్తి చేసుకుని, పాటల చిత్రీకరణ జరుపుకుంటోంది. కర్నాటకలోని బీదర్ లో ప్రస్తుతం నాయికా నాయకుల మధ్య ఓ పాటని చిత్రీకరిస్తున్నారు. ఈ సినిమా ఆడియో వేడుకను రేపు హైదరాబాద్ లో ప్లాన్ చేయడంతో రామ్ - తమన్నా తదితరులు హైదరాబాద్ రానున్నారు. ఈ సినిమాని అందమైన దృశ్య కావ్యంగా మలచడానికి భారీ మొత్తంలో ఖర్చు పెట్టారు. తెరపై రామ్ - తమన్నాల మధ్య కెమిస్ట్రీ అద్భుతంగా ఉంటుందని భావించిన కుర్రకారు ప్రేక్షకులు, ఈ సినిమా కోసం ఆత్రుతగా ఎదురు చూస్తున్నారు. 'కందిరీగ' సినిమాతో విజయాన్ని అందుకున్నరామ్, 'రచ్చ' సినిమాతో సక్సెస్ చూసిన తమన్నా ఈ సినిమాతో కలిసి హిట్ కొడతారో లేదో చూడాలి. 

'రూలర్'గా 'షేక్' చేయించనున్న బోయపాటి !

'దమ్ము' సినిమాతో మరోసారి తన సత్తా చాటుకున్న బోయపాటి తన స్పీడు మరింత పెంచినట్టు కనిపిస్తోంది. 'దమ్ము' తెచ్చిన టాక్ తో ఆయన మహేష్ బాబు - రామ్ చరణ్ లతో సినిమాలను చేసేందుకు మరింత ఉత్సాహాన్ని చూపిస్తున్నారు. ఈ నేపథ్యంలోనే ఆయన 'షేక్' ... 'రూలర్' అనే టైటిల్స్ ని హైదరాబాద్ ఫిల్మ్ చాంబర్ లో రిజిస్టర్ చేయించినట్టు తెలుస్తోంది. ప్రస్తుతం మహేష్ బాబు ఇమేజ్ కి తగిన కథని రెడీ చేసుకున్న బోయపాటి, ఆ సినిమాకి 'రూలర్' అనే టైటిల్ ని ఖరారు చేసుకున్నట్టు చెబుతున్నారు. 'దమ్ము' సినిమాలో 'రూలర్ ... 'అంటూ సాగే పాట ఆడియన్స్ లోకి దూసుకెళ్లింది. దాంతో తన తదుపరి సినిమాకి ఆ టైటిల్ పెట్టుకుందామని ఆ చిత్ర నిర్మాత అలెగ్జాండర్ వల్లభ అనుకున్నాడట. అయితే ఈలోగా అతనికంటే ముందుగానే ఈ టైటిల్ ని బోయపాటి రిజిస్టర్ చేయించి వల్లభకి షాక్ ఇచ్చాడని అంటున్నారు. యువతరం కథానాయకులతో వరుస హిట్లు కొట్టడానికి బోయపాటి చేస్తోన్న ప్రయత్నాలు ఎంతవరకూ ఫలిస్తాయో చూడాలి. 

బాలీవుడ్ కి వెళ్తోన్న 'బిజినెస్ మేన్'

'బిజినెస్ మేన్' చిత్రం తెలుగు సినిమా బిజినెస్ ని పెంచడంలో సక్సెస్ ని సాధించింది. అప్పటికే దూకుడు మీదున్న మహేష్ బాబు ఈ సినిమా ద్వారా మరో సారి తిరుగులేని విజయాన్ని అందుకున్నారు. ప్రపంచ స్థాయిలో విడుదలైన ఈ సినిమా, హీరోగా మహేష్ బాబుకి ...  దర్శకుడిగా పూరీ జగన్నాథ్ కి ఆ రేంజ్ క్రేజ్ నే అందించింది. ఈ సక్సెస్ తమ తదుపరి చిత్రాలపై తీవ్రమైన ప్రభావం చూపిస్తుందని తెలిసిన మహేష్ బాబు ... పూరీ జగన్నాథ్ చాలా జాగ్రత్తగా కెరియర్ ని ప్లాన్ చేస్తున్నారు. ఇతర సినీ పరిశ్రమల పై కూడా ఈ సినిమా ప్రభావం విపరీతంగా ఉండటంతో, మహేష్ బాబుతో హిందీలో రీమేక్ చేయాలని పూరీ జగన్నాథ్ అనుకున్నారు. అందుకు మహేష్ నిరాకరించడంతో పూరీ కూడా మౌనంగా వుండిపోయారు.

అయితే ఈ నేపథ్యంలో ఈ సినిమాని హిందీలో రీమేక్ చేయబోతున్నట్టు రామ్ గోపాల్ వర్మ చెప్పారు. ఇందుకు పూరీ జగన్నాథ్ కూడా సిద్ధంగా ఉన్నాడనీ ... అభిషేక్ బచ్చన్ ని హీరోగా ఎంచుకున్నామని అన్నారు. త్వరలోనే పూర్తి వివరాలను వెల్లడిస్తామని ఈ రోజు ఉదయం ఆయన ట్విట్టర్ ద్వారా తెలియ జేశారు. దాంతో మళ్లీ ఈ విషయం చిత్ర పరిశ్రమలో హాట్ టాపిక్ గా మారిపోయిందని తెలుస్తోంది. 

గోపీచంద్ కి సాయం చేయబోతోన్నతాప్సీ

గోపీచంద్ - తాప్సీ జంటగా నటించిన 'మొగుడు' చిత్రం పరాజయం పాలైంది. 'మొగుడు' పెళ్లానికి  గొప్ప కావచ్చుగాని మాకేంటి అనుకున్నారేమోగాని ప్రేక్షకులేవరూ ఈ సినిమాని పెద్దగా పట్టించుకోలేదు. దాంతో ఇక ఈ జంట పొరపాటున కూడా తెర మీద కనిపించదని అంతా అనుకున్నారు. అయితే అలా అనుకున్న వాళ్లందరి అంచనాలు ఇప్పుడు తల్లకిందులయ్యాయి. తాజాగా వీళ్లిద్దరూ మరో మారు జట్టు కట్టేందుకు రెడీయై పోయారు.

శ్రీ వెంకటేశ్వర సినీ చిత్ర ఇండియా పతాకంపై రూపొందుతోన్న చిత్రంలో గోపీచంద్ నటిస్తోన్న సంగతి ప్రేక్షకులకి తెలుసు. చంద్రశేఖర్ ఏలేటి దర్శకత్వంలో తెర కెక్కుతోన్న ఈ సినిమాకి కొంత మంది కథానాయికలను పరిశీలించి చివరికి తాప్సీని ఎంపిక చేసినట్లు తెలుస్తోంది. ఈ సినిమాలో నిధి కోసం అన్వేషిస్తోన్న గోపీచంద్ కి కథానాయికగా తాప్సీ సాయం చేస్తూవుంటుంది. ఇక గతంలో గోపీచంద్ నటించిన 'ఒక్కడున్నాడు' చిత్రానికి చంద్రశేఖర్ ఏలేటి దర్శకుడిగా వ్యవహరించారు. దాదాపు అయిదేళ్ల గ్యాప్ తరువాత వస్తోన్న ఈ సినిమా ఏ రేంజ్ లో ఉంటుందోననే ఊహాగానాలు అప్పుడే మొదలయ్యాయి.    

ఐశ్వర్యరాయ్ కూతురు పేరు ఖరారు

ఐశ్వర్యరాయ్ తన అందచందాలతో విశ్వ సుందరిగా ప్రపంచ ప్రేక్షకుల అభినందనలు అందుకుంది. తను కదిలినా మెదిలినా మీడియా స్పందించే స్థాయికి ఎదిగింది. అమితాబ్ కోడలిగా ఆ ఇంట్లోకి అడుగు పెట్టిన తరువాత ఆ కుటుంబ నేపథ్యంతో ఆమె పేరు ప్రతిష్టలు మరింత పెరిగాయి. ఇటీవల ఆమె ఓ ఆడ శిశువుకి జన్మనిచ్చింది. సాధారణంగానే ఐశ్వర్య రాయ్ కూతురు ఎలా వుంటుందో చూడాలని ప్రతి ఒక్కరూ అనుకుంటారు. ఆ పాపకి ఏ పేరు పెట్టారో తెలుసుకోవాలని ఆరాటపడతారు. అయితే ఈ రెండు విషయాలను బచ్చన్ కుటుంబీకులు గోప్యంగానే ఉంచుతూ వచ్చారు.  ఈ నేపథ్యంలో ఐశ్వర్య రాయ్ కూతుర్ని ఇదిగిదిగో చూపించేస్తున్నారంటూ ప్రచారాలు మొదలయ్యాయి. ఐశ్వర్య కూతురుకి అభిలాష అని నామకరణం చేశారంటూ వార్తలు షికారు చేశాయి. ఇక ఇప్పుడు ఆ గాసిప్పులన్నిటికీ బచ్చన్ కుటుంబ సభ్యులు తెర దించేసినట్టు తెలుస్తోంది. ఐశ్వర్య రాయ్ కూతురుకి 'ఆరాధ్య' అనే పేరుని ఖరారు చేసినట్టు ఓ ప్రముఖ వార్తా పత్రిక ప్రచురించింది. పేరు చాలా బావుందనుకుంటూనే ... ఆ పాపని చూసే క్షణం కోసం ప్రపంచమంతా ఆసక్తిగా ఎదురు చూస్తోంది. 

తమిళ విలన్ గా జగపతిబాబు ?

తమిళంలో 'తాండవం' అనే చిత్రం తెరకెక్కుతోంది. ఈ సినిమాలో అనుష్క - విక్రమ్ నాయికా నాయకులుగా నటిస్తున్నారు. ఈ సినిమాలో జగపతిబాబు ఓ కీలకమైన పాత్రని పోషిస్తున్నట్టు ఆ మధ్య హైదరాబాద్ ఫిల్మ్ సర్కిల్స్ లోనూ వినిపించింది. అయితే అందరూ కూడా బహుశా అది సెకండ్ హీరో కేరక్టర్ కావచ్చని అనుకున్నారు. తాజాగా అందిన సమాచారం ప్రకారం ఇంచు మించు అది విలన్ టైపు కేరక్టర్ అని తెలుస్తోంది. ఆ సినిమాలో అది చాలా పవర్ ఫుల్  కేరక్టర్ అనీ ... అందువల్లనే జగపతిబాబు అంగీకరించాడని అంటున్నారు. గతంలో హీరో సుమన్ కూడా తమిళ చిత్రాల్లో విలన్ గా కనిపించారు. ఇప్పుడదే తరహాలో జగపతిబాబు ఈ సినిమా చేస్తున్నట్లు చెబుతున్నారు. నిజానికి జగపతిబాబు ఎప్పుడూ కూడా హీరోగా మాత్రమే చేస్తానంటూ భీష్మించుకు కూర్చోలేదు. ప్రాధాన్యతగల పాత్రలని అంగీకరించి తను మాత్రమే ఆ పాత్రల్ని పండించగలనని నిరూపించారు. అలా ఎన్నో విభిన్నమైన పాత్రలను పోషించిన జగపతిబాబు, విలన్ పాత్రల్లో సైతం అలరించడం ఖాయమని సన్నిహితులు చెబుతున్నారు.

'దమ్ము'చూపించే పాట ఖర్చు 3 కోట్లు

ఎన్టీఆర్ - బోయపాటి కాంబినేషన్లో యాక్షన్ ఎంటర్ టైనర్ గా 'దమ్ము' చిత్రం తెరకెక్కుతోన్న సంగతి ప్రేక్షకులకి తెలిసిందే. ప్రస్తుతం ఈ సినిమా షూటింగ్ హైదరాబాద్ లోని అన్నపూర్ణ స్టూడియోలో జరుగుతోంది. ఇక్కడ వేసిన ఖరీదైన సెట్లో ఎన్టీఆర్ - త్రిషలపై దర్శకుడు బోయపాటి శీను ఓ పాటని చిత్రీకరిస్తున్నారు. డాన్స్ మాస్టర్ దినేష్ కంపోజ్ చేస్తోన్న ఈ పాట ఖర్చు అక్షరాలా 3 కోట్లు అని తెలుస్తోంది. ఇంటర్వల్ బ్యాంగ్ కి ముందొచ్చే ఈ సాంగ్, ఈ సినిమాకే హైలైట్ గా నిలుస్తుందని చెబుతున్నారు. అంతగా ఆ పాటలో ఏవుందనేది తెర మీద చూడాల్సిందేనని అంటున్నారు. కీరవాణి అందించిన మ్యూజిక్ ... ఎన్టీఆర్ వేసిన స్టెప్స్ ఈ సినిమాకి ప్రధాన ఆకర్షణ అవుతాయని చెబుతున్నారు. ఎన్టీఆర్ అభిమానులు మాత్రం ఈ సినిమా కోసం ఎంతో ఆత్రుతంగా ఎదురు చూస్తున్నట్టు తెలుస్తోంది. మరి వాళ్లకి తన 'దమ్ము' చూపించడంలో ఎన్టీఆర్ ఎంతవరకు సక్సెస్ అవుతాడనేది చూడాలి.

తెలుగు తెరపై అమితాబ్ 'కాందహార్'

అసమాన నటుడు అమితాబ్ నటించిన మలయాళ చిత్రం 'కాందహార్' త్వరలో తెలుగు తెర పై  ప్రత్యక్షం కాబోతోంది. 'కాందహార్' విమానం హైజాక్ చేయబడిన నేపథ్యాన్ని ఇతివృత్తంగా చేసుకుని ఈ చిత్రాన్నితెరకెక్కించారు. మేజర్ రవి దర్శకత్వం వహించిన ఈ సినిమాని, రామ్ ప్రియాంక మీడియా ఎంటర్ టైన్మెంట్స్ వారు తెలుగులోకి అనువదిస్తున్నారు. ఈ సినిమాలో ప్రధాన పాత్ర ధారులైన తండ్రీ కొడుకులుగా అమితా బచ్చన్ ... గణేష్ వెంకట్రామన్ నటించారు. మిలటరీ మేజర్ గా మోహన్ లాల్ ... ఇతర ముఖ్య పాత్రల్లో ... సుమలత - అనన్య - కావేరిఝా తదితరులు నటించారు. ఈ సినిమా టేకింగ్ అద్భుతంగా ఉంటుందనీ ... ఆద్యంతం ఉత్కంఠ భరితంగా కొనసాగుతుందని నిర్మాతలు శేషగిరి - విశ్వనాథ్ అన్నారు. మలయాళ ప్రేక్షకుల్ని అమితంగా ఆకట్టుకున్న ఈ సినిమా, తెలుగు ప్రేక్షకుల్ని కూడా ఆ స్థాయిలోనే అలరిస్తుందని చెప్పారు. ఈ సినిమా ఏప్రిల్లో అనువాద కార్య క్రమాల్ని పూర్తి చేసుకుని, మే లో ప్రేక్షకుల ముందుకు వస్తుందని అన్నారు.

Ever wished you had super powers so that you could kick the bullying boss’ arse? It’s a wonderful gift we all pray for. It’s an aspiration that makes you pose in front of our bedroom mirrors. It’s a dream that puts you to sleep on many a portentous nights. That dream comes true in Chronicle. For three high school kids who really don’t know what to do with their gift. One of them has a voyeuristic streak of chronicling his life on camera and that’s how the fascinating story of their discovery and struggle gets told.

Andrew (Dane DeHaan), Matt (Alex Russell) and Steve (Michael B Jordon) are average high school guys with distinctly different personalities. One night they stumble upon a weird thing that gives them powers of telekinesis. If you’re a gamer you’d know that’s one of the best super abilities you can have. The three guys get their new powers but unlike Clark Kent or Peter Parker, they refrain from turning into crusaders of law and justice. Nor do they turn into maniacal geniuses out for world domination. They practise their newfound abilities at the local mall, at a talent show and generally doing fun and exciting things.

That’s the strength of Chronicle. It doesn’t feature the leading men turning into caped crusaders of vigilantes. They’re school kids so their efforts into using their powers are reserved for juvenile activities like playing pranks and gaining popularity at school. Of course they do have real world problems, which in turn create conflict in the story. By the end, the film does turn into a good versus bad saga, but it always remains the story of three supercharged friends.

The film’s greatest strength is the hand-held voyeur style camera work. Since the story is a chronicle of one of the protagonists it’s his camera that documents the whole situation. Watching a bunch of guys get the best of unsuspecting victims or fly in the sky around jetliners doesn’t seem like movie cliché simply because it’s presented in the handy cam format. For the average movie goer it might not seem like the best choice. But for a generation that calls YouTube its Hitchhikers Guide to The Galaxy this is as good as it gets.

If you’ve seen Cloverfield or if you’ve seen the new X-Men: First Class or even JJ Abrams’ recent Super 8, you’d be at home watching Chronicle. The film has some really powerful scenes and some kick ass action to boot. It’s a bit jaded in terms of story but the camera treatment and idea of guys having malevolent fun with power makes it worth a watch. Director Josh Trank can take a bow and so can his writer Max Landis, cinematographer Matthew Jensen and Dane DeHaan. This film is worth a 100 million hits and 10 million likes.

Journey 2 The Mysterious Island

It’s been five days since Journey 2 The Mysterious Island hit theatres. It’s been as much time since I saw the movie. This review’s as late too. But what’s still fresh is the recollection of Michael Caine riding a giant bee and Dwayne Johnson bouncing berries of his chest. Journey 2 The Mysterious Island is full of such outrageous moments that no matter how much you try to forget will linger in memory.

Jules Verne wrote The Mysterious Island about 140 years ago. Read the book today and you’ll still feel a sense of futuristic drama about it. But that’s completely absent from the film, because Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is too busy grinning away to glory and Michael Caine is too busy being cocky. As the story unfolds, Sean (Josh Hutcherson) stumbles upon a radio transmission that gives clues to the whereabouts of the legendary Mysterious Island. From there on Sean and his stepfather Hank (Dwayne Johnson) tag along and head to the middle of the Pacific. Their journey to the island is as easy as hiring a chopper and flying a few miles.

The film employs such colossal levels of suspension of disbelief that the shock of sitting through the film pales in comparison. Sure the film was made for a young audience, but then so are the Harry Potter movies. And they don’t feature clichés like stepping on an angry mother lizard’s eggs and the hero having herpetophobia (fear of lizards in this case). But this film does. What saves the cause of the film is some fine 3D. But when the story dives to 20000 leagues under the sea there isn’t much cause celebre for watching.

That Caine and Johnson are reduced to mockeries amidst a million clichés is the lowest point in the film. Watch Journey 2 The Mysterious Island at IMAX only. At least the larger-than-life splendour of 3D will keep your brains from thinking too much. And if you call yourself a Vernian you’d better stick with the book. Because this film is like Captian Nemo’s Nautilus. It’s destined to explore the depths of uncharted abysses. All the way to the bottom.

Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu

Be it films from the foreign shores or our local roads, rom coms are a stable but predictable genre. It’s the treatment, narrative and style which sets a good romantic comedy from the others. This is exactly where Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu scores. The film has a distinct voice and is ably supported by witty dialogue, quirky settings and well sketched characters. It’s that sweet break our movies were missing for a long time.

Directed by newbie Shakun Batra, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu has just about the right amount of romance and comic moments. Borrowing a phrase from the film itself, the movie is ‘perfectly average’. A failed architect Rahul (Imran Khan) is in search for a boost in his self-confidence. His parents live in their own bubble oblivious of his actual needs. While in the search of a job Rahul befriends a free-spirited, out of work Hairstylist Riana (Kareena Kapoor) in whom he finds the madness he procures. The film finds a perfect balance between being an all-mush romantic saga and an enduring coming-of-age film. It never goes over the top and it’s underplay is the sexiest thing about it. This is as Hollywood as it gets. We aren’t talking about slight similarities it shares with What Happens In Vegas and 500 Days Of Summer. EMAET is a good-looking film and its crisp editing puts it on a different level. The writing of the film is unassuming and its effort to avoid the run-of-the-mill route is one its biggest strength. Clocking just about two hours, the film keeps you engrossed throughout and kind of shocks you with an unusual climax.

Amit Trivedi does an impressive job with the music. It walks hand in hand with the script. Gubbare Gubbare and Aahatein stay with you long after the lights come on. One word for the number Aunty ji – Fun.

The lead characters of a romantic movie are its pillars and EMAET stands on two really strong ones. Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor are in the best of form and they really make the film work. Kareena is radiant and vivacious. Her character has traces of Geet from Jab We Met but she goes a step ahead and delivers a fun but matured performance. It may sound like a cliché, but she’s just getting better with each film. Imran Khan is a revelation. The role is tailor-made for him and he is at his earnest best. It’s hard not to like him.

The film has an easy, comforting charm. It can be your date movie as well as a buddy film. Go watch it and have a great time.

War Horse

Quick Take: Spielberg doesn’t horse around


War Horse is a children’s tale about a horse that lives through the First World War. That may sound like a fairytale to some because it is just that. The film deals with the improbable story of a thoroughbred horse travelling across Europe and miraculously finding his way through most obstacles. Horses with personalities and a goose with a temper make this movie a tale of fantasy. It’s a tale that requires imagination to appreciate and innocence to believe in bare emotions.

In an English town called Devon is born a colt who’s later named Joey by his young owner Albie (Jeremy Irvine). Right from the start you can see Joey is a spirited stallion, sort of like a Free Willy version of a horse. As destiny would have it, Joey and Albie who’ve become like blood brothers are separated at the time of war. That sets in motion Joey’s big journey with new owners, a battle against German soldiers and their fancy guns and meeting his best mate, obviously another horse serving in the war.

Of course the film’s main story is supported by such stereotypes like a farming family under financial duress, Germans being smarter and more ruthless at war than England and France, two brothers reluctantly serving in the war and a critically ill girl who finds happiness in her equestrian company. But all of those clichés come together to lend depth to a larger story. That of a horse winning over the hearts of men and women across borders. Heck Joey even inspires a British and a German soldier to work together in no man’s land pat in the middle of the war recess.

Steven Spielberg’s best war-related works like Schindler’s List, Saving Private Ryan and Munich had emotional depth through bonds between men. War Horse relates to the same kind of emotions; only they’re depicted through the reactions of people towards the heroic actions of a horse. A hackneyed sense of British humour accompanies the film not to mention unadulterated Manmohan Desai style melodrama right before the climax. All of it is enough to put you off in case you’re expecting too much.

The key therefore is not to have expectations of the story but of the storyteller. While his story stays naive, Spielberg the filmmaker excels at capturing drama, emotion and joy in all its glory. This one’s more about the artiste than the art itself.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (3D)

Quick Take: Style over substance




While it’s no reboot, the mere inclusion of how Johnny Blaze got his cursed powers from the devil at the start of the film makes it nothing less. Of course, this graphic novel style sequence is one of the best things about the film. The sequel of Ghost Rider is chock-a-block with inspired action sequences, manic energy and silly humour. They add a darker touch to the protagonist and make the hero look crazier than you’d expect him to be. But having said and done all of that, the film still lacks the proverbial punch. 

This is the story of the Ghost Rider who’s called upon for another challenging task. But this time, instead of working for the Devil, he works against him. The Devil in cinema really has no other agenda in life than to sprout an offspring and rule the Earth. So that’s what he’s about to do in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and obviously the anti-hero is out to foil his plans.

When one heard that Crank makers Mark Neveldine and Brain Taylor were helming the new Ghost Rider film, one thought they’d bring the much needed darkness that was absent from the first feature. In parts the duo has succeeded in bringing more character to the Ghost Rider but it’s still not enough. The point is they’re still treating a dark hero like a text book crusader. The juvenile comic book humour may go down well with a PG 13 audience, but those are not the people who pass the ultimate quality judgment on the film.

A guy whose head is on fire and who enjoys punishing people for their sins is unobtainium for a filmmaker. But to treat him like Spider-Man or Ironman is really a slap on creativity. Nevertheless a bipolar (on-screen of course) Nicolas Cage is perfect as the unstable Ghost Rider. But his antics look a bit ludicrous simply because there is no subtext to why he behaves the way he does. He just wakes up and wreaks havoc. The result of which is mayhem that can be very satisfying for the action junkie. A giant quarry machine, a Yamaha V-max and a bionic flamethrower are all amped with hellfire. If burning leather and bones are your fancy, this film can serve up some serious erotica.

But beyond all that detailed gothic styling and video game styled camera work lies nothing. It’s a vacuum created by the fact that the hero does absolutely no thinking by himself. The new Ghost Rider film, like the original, has very little soul.

Sonam and Asin bond

Sonam and Asin added all the calories to themselves at Farah's bash. And the reason was a homemade cake by Sunita Kapoor. It was a big bash at Farah's on her birthday but what caught everyone's attention is the lovely cake brought by Sonam's momma which was especially made for the special day at home. And Sonam's mom Sunita Kapoor was seen feeding the cake with all the affection to Farah, Asin and Sonam at the do. The girls loved the cake so much that a big discussion followed there after.

Saif adds another song to Agent Vinod

Saif Ali Khan has added another song to his film Agent Vinod. Apparently, Pritam, the film's composer had created a song for some other film but when Saif heard it he requested Pritam too add it to Agent Vinod. Being a good friend Pritam immediately agreed. They are still looking to finalise the singer.

Kangna gets inked, yet again

Kangana Ranaut is one amongst B-Towns most known fashion icons. Always making a statement, she has often been noticed to dress up in diverse and unique styles of her own. This Fashion Diva also has two tattoos inked on her. The first one as everyone knows is a cross with angels, sword, crown and wings and is engraved on the nape of her neck. The other one is a more recent one which is on her ankle. This one is an angel with wings. “Yes, I have the second tattoo as an angel with wings. I love the concept of having wings, so i got this done and this angel is the one with Curly hair” she adds with a wink.

Shraddha ditches her director

When Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's assistant Prerna Wadhwa set out to direct her debut venture with Neil Nitin Mukesh and Shraddha Kapoor, little did she know her film will be left in lurch by its actress. Apparently, Shraddha read the script and loved it, even her father Shakti Kapoor was equally excited, for it would be a big venture for her. For three months she kept the producers hanging and finally backed out claiming that YRF is not letting her do the film. While YRF, on their part said that she is bound by contract for three films but she can always do films outside. The film was to go on floors in february but now that the film is actress less, they are still looking for to cast a face opposite Neil.

Ali travels by train

Ali Zafar finally had a taste of Mumbai's local train flavour when he travelled from Churchgate to Andheri. Ali, who was performing at the Kala Ghoda festival was supposed to reach the suburbs at an appointed hour. The only choice left to him was to travel by train. He was quite gung ho. So, after his performance, he jumped into the train like a veteran train traveler. It being the rush hour, he had to squeeze his way in. What's more, people recognised him. but the actor enjoyed interacting with the travelers and had a great journey back home.

Viveik Oberoi upset

Vivek Oberoi was reportedly slighted by Sanjay Gupta. After doing Shootout At Lokhandwala with him, he’d expected the director would offer him his next Shootout At Wadala. But that didn’t happen. Gupta instead approached John Abraham. Not just that, Gupta then approached Vivek for another role in the same film. Naturally, Vivek who’d played the lead in Shootout At Lokhandwala, was miffed. But he didn’t refuse outright. Instead he told Sanjay Gupta that he’d read the script and if he liked the role he’d think about it. Now if that isn’t euphemism for refusing the film, what is?

Salman high on Shriya?

The gossip industry is once again ripe with rumours about Salman Khan. This time it’s being hinted that the actor is sweet on South Indian actress Shriya Saran. He’s been recommending her to everyone who’s willing to give him an ear. He reportedly told his friend Rumi Jaffrey to cast her in Gali Gali Mein Chor Hai. Rumi was only too happy to oblige Salman Khan. So now if you see Shriya’s career getting a facelift, you know who’s behind it. Wink, wink.

Anurag-Arbaaz are friends again

Anurag Kashyap and Arbaaz Khan we hear finally buried the hatchet at Farhan Akhtar’s birthday party. If you remember the two had indulged in a slanging match on a social networking site when Arbaaz Khan hadn’t opted for Anurag’s brother Abhinav Kashyap to direct Dabangg 2. Anurag was irritated with the Khan brothers and had let loose a volley of abuses. But when the two finally came face to face at Farhan’s party, they let bygones be bygones. The two embraced each other and all was forgotten.

Prateik is a fitness freak

Prateik it seems has become a fitness freak of late. The guy is on a strict regime. He’s been undergoing intense physical training under a specialised trainer. Also he’s been on a rigorous diet which he jokingly calls the Miss World diet. The actor is particular about his workouts and what he eats. He will starve but won’t eat the wrong thing ever. Apparently, he wants the best body in the business. Abhishek Bachchan even remarked that Prateik indeed had one of the fittest bods in B-town.

Shruti-Siddharth split

Shruti Haassan and Siddharth have long gone their separate ways. The couple who’d been seeing each other for a while finally realised that they weren’t meant for each other. Sohail purchases Raj-Shilpa's nightclub

Sohail Khan has bought over Shilpa and Raj Kundra’s nightclub, Royalty. The actress and entrepreneur husband had set up the club with great love and ambitions but soon after they discontinued their plan. And now, we hear that Salman’s brother Sohail has bought over the property from the couple. And now the club is run by him.

Nargis floors Rishi-Neetu

It was interesting how Ranbir Kapoor’s parents Neetu and Rishi Kapoor met Nargis Fakhri for the first time. The unit of Rockstar had just begun shooting in Delhi. Both Neetu and Rishi Kapoor came to visit their son in Delhi. They were put up at the same hotel where Ranbir, Nargis and the other crew members were staying. So they were catching up with Imtiaz in the hotel lobby when they spotted a beautiful girl sitting across the hall, talking to someone. They were so taken up by her beauty that they drew Imtiaz’s attention towards the girl and said she should consider making a career in the movies. Hearing that Imitiaz laughed and disclosed her identity, telling them she was making her debut opposite Ranbir Kapoor. That’s when they realised she was Nargis Fakhri.  Imtiaz called Nargis over and introduced her to the senior actors. When the incident was narrated to Ranbir, he had a hearty laugh

Dharmendra to launch Ahana

After Esha Deol’s tryst with stardom failed, it’s now younger sister Ahana’s turn to try her hand at the movies. The pretty young thing has signed a couple of films but there seem to be some or the other problem with them getting started. Poor Ahana didn’t know what to do. It seems like her career would be a non-starter. But enter papa Dharmendra and all her problems seem to have sorted out. The veteran actor stepped in and decided to save the day for his daughter.  Vijeta Films it seems will now launch Ahana. Good luck girl.

Minissha Lamba dating a politician???

What is this we’re hearing? The grapevine is bubbling with gossip. This time it’s Minissha Lamba who’s at the centre of it all. Her friendship with Mukul Deora, yes Murli Deora’s younger son, has come under the scanner.  And gossip mongers insist that there’s more to it than just friendship. According to sources, the two apparently met and took an instant liking to each other. And their friendship blossomed. Know-alls insist that it soon turned into love. Well, we’re not saying anything. We’re just watching them.

Ajay replaces Aamir

Meanwhile we hear Anees Bazmee had approached Aamir Khan with a script. The actor surprisingly liked it very much. But he couldn’t give dates immediately as he has his plate full with future ventures. He reportedly asked Bazmee to wait for two years. Any other director would have gladly waited for Aamir to give the dates. But not Bazmee. In a hurry to start the project, he decided to move on. So he approached his favourite actor Ajay Devgn instead. 

Poet Vivek

For all his bluster, Vivek Oberoi has a soft side to him too. The side that appreciates art and culture. Yes we know he collects art. But there's a finer side than that too to him. The actor writes poetry. And this came to light while he was shooting at Gaziabad recently. The actor would keep jotting something in his diary every now and then. When the director asked him what he was doing, Vivek said he was writing poetry. The director asked if he could read some stuff. The actor agreed. Apparently, the director loved what he read and asked him whether he could use some of his poems in the movie. Vivek was reluctant but finally agreed to part with his creations.

PriyankaChopro-HRITHIK pick on each other

They may be good friends but the two have a grave issue with each other. We're talking about Priyanka Chopra and Hrithik Roshan. It irks him to see her on the mobile every few minutes. He complains that she's on the phone in between shots. Not one to take things lying down, PC too has pointed out that he too has the same habit. So much that the two don't let go of any chance to point fingers at each other each time one of them is on the phone. And so as they chill in between shots, their banter continues. Much to the amusement of those around.

Now it seems the couple has targeted real estate. What's more they're even planning to sell property on a discounted rate. Now that's interesting. Our sources say he feels he has been taken for a ride by the producer and this is something the actor won’t take lying down. So he has apparently sent a notice to the producer to pay his dues. Well if Gelani knows what’ good for him, he’ll cough up the money in no time. Otherwise…  surely he doesn’t need us to spell it out for him.

Priyanka Chopra may be reigning on the screen and she may soon become a singer of international repute, but she still remains a mama’s gal. We must tell you that she’s completely ruled by her mother. It’s her mother who decides how much money Priyanka can spend and what she can buy. The actress doesn’t indulge herself unless her mother approves. And if mama feels that her beti wantsto buy something that’s ridiculously expensive, she vetoes the idea and Piggy Chops quietly obeys her. We believe Priyanka is lookingto buy a high end luxury car and her mother has fixed a budget, which Piggy can’t go beyond.

Dhoom 3 delayed

Yes it’s true. Our sources have confirmed that Dhoom 3 has been postponed by a year. And the reason is none other than Aamir Khan. Insiders say that he wants to finish Reema Kagti’s Talaash, take a break and then start on Dhoom 3 with a fresh mind. But we believe or rather our sources tell us that he’s postponed the shoot because he wants to build an awesome physique for his role in the film. He wants a year to sculpt his body, hence the delay. We’re surprised that Yash Raj Films which is so particular about its schedules has agreed to delaying the film. Certainly a first for them.

Saif and Kareena have no dates for Agent Vinod

Agent Vinod has been delayed for various reasons. Apparently, both Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan don’t have the required dates for their home production. Funny that. Also, we hear that the film’s music isn’t ready. The songs are yet to be composed. But the nature of the movie is such that the filmmakers don’t know what kind of music to use in the film. Plus, they don’t know how to fit in the music in this fast-paced whodunit. So things seem a li’l haywire at the moment. In the meanwhile both Kareena and Saif are unmindful of the problems that have beset the film and are off on a New Year holiday. Bon voyage!

SRK to get in shape

Shah Rukh Khan is known to survive on aerated drinks, tea and cigarettes. But now the superstar is making healthy changes in his diet. He has begun to eat healthy. Apparently, the actor is doing this for his next film with YRF. He plays a romantic and the role reportedly demands that he have a fuller body. So we hear he’s been advised to get rid of his lean mean muscular body. And hence he’s been eating well. Are we glad to hear that?

Rani meets Shah Rukh

Rani Mukerji paid a surprise visit on the sets of Don 2 recently. Of course, she dropped in to meet her buddy Shah Rukh Khan. She met her old friend after a long time and chatted away to glory They met and caught up on old times.Rani and SRK have worked in a couple of films together and off screen their chemistry and friendship remains intact. 

Chitrangda upsets Mishra

She was once his muse. But we now believe that director Sudhir Mishra is miffed with Chitrangda Singh. And the reason is the interview she recently gave to a tabloid. Apparently, she said she was caught in a rut and that she was looking forward to getting out of it by doing movies like Desi Boyz. This remark apparently has irked Mishra, who gave the actress her break. Sources say he’s pissed that she’s called his cinema a rut and that she wanted to move out of it. We understand Sudhir Mishra’s angst. As for Chitrangda, we must say that she’s been pissing off too many people. Most people in the industry don’t have a kind word to say about her. Especially, the people who work with her on a daily basis. This when her career is floundering. Imagine what will happen if she tastes success.

Hrithik’s an AD Again

Hrithik Roshan may be suffering from an injury to his back but rest is the last thing on the actor’s mind. Ever since Krrish 2 has gone on the floors the actor has become especially busy. He’s involved with every aspect of the film. And now we hear he’s taken to assisting his dad on the sets. The actor starts shooting for the film only in February. So till then he will act as his dad’s AD while Vivek Oberoi and Priyanka Chopra shoot for the film. Well, it suits the actor’s workaholic nature and his back too. Just hope he recovers soon.

New improved Shiney

When Shiney Ahuja was going through a real bad patch in his career after he was released from jail, it was good friend Anurag Basu who came to his rescue. He gave Shiney a small role in his upcoming Barfee. The two have been friends since their Gangster days, so when Shiney really needed him, Anurag came through for him. Those around Shiney say that the actor is a changed man. All those stories about his arrogance and bad behaviour are a thing of the past now. He’s even helping his Russian co-star in Barfee, Julia Bliss, with her Hindi dialogue. Now isn’t that sweet. Of course the fact that the co-star is rather pretty helps him to be kind. Wink, wink.

Okay now this is something which really took us by surprise. Did you know that Kangna Ranaut was the first choice for The Dirty Picture? But she refused and the role went to Vidya Balan. And are we glad for that! Considering Vidya did such a fab job! Tough luck Kangna! 

Arjun boycotted from khan camp?

Looks like its bad news for Arjun Kapoor, yup Boney Kapoor’s son. The newcomer has recently been in the news over his rather controversial friendship with Malaika Arora Khan. Rumours of Malaika’s marriage problems have been doing the rounds. Of course, this hasn’t affected Arbaaz and Malaika who have continued to make public appearances.  And now it seems Salman Khan has gotten into the act. If what we hear is true then it seems Salman Khan has boycotted Arjun from his camp. Arjun who was considered family, dated Arpita at one time, has suddenly become the outcast. We believe Salman is so miffed by the whole thing that he’s contemplating not working with Boney Kapoor in the future.

Akshay prepares for OUATIM sequel

Akshay Kumar is quite excited about his role in Milan Luthria’s sequel to Once Upon A Time In Mumbai. He plays the role of a gangster in the film. We hear he’s been watching gangster movies made around the world, to study the body language, pick up the nuances and get into the skin of the character. Also Milan has given the star a few books to read on the subject. And Akshay who’s not exactly known for his reading habits, seems to have taken quite a shine to the written word.

Assistants misbehave with Mahi Gill

So Mahi Gill spoke at length in Filmfare about how Nagesh Kukunoor’s assistants treated her badly during her struggling days. She’d gone for an audition and they made nasty cracks at her expense. She recounted the entire experience in one of our interviews. When Nagesh read the interview, he promptly scouted for Mahi’s number and got in touch with her.
